Author Field: What if 'author' is an institution or agency?

Amy Staffen Feb 10, 2012 07:20PM GMT

I have many reports that have no person as an author. I would like the name of the institution or agency to be treated as the author, however, in the citation and in the reference.

When I try entering the agency into the 'Author' field, it treats it like a human being. For example: "U.S. Environmental Protection Agency" becomes "Agency, U.S.E.P." I can retain the proper order of words if I put hyphens between these, but then these would need to be deleted later in my Word document.

Is there any way to make this work?

You can add an institutional author by typing the author into the Authors field in Mendeley Desktop as normal, and then clicking on the drop down box which appears underneath it saying ‘NAME (Institution/Organization)’. This should mark the author as an institution rather than an individual, and format it appropriately. Hope this helps!

This does not work for me.

The author list I need is:

Virginia Department of Emergency Management
Federal Emergency Management Agency
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

And Mendeley's hash of it, below, sucks.

Management, Virginia Department of Emergency
Agency, Federal Emergency Management
Engineers, U.S. Army Corps of
